Key Club sponsoring Bowling for Hunger event

Come out to summit lanes on Feb. 15 to help feed mouths from third-world countries. The cost is $15 per person. Please sign up with Mrs. Mayotte or Richard Shafer by February 11th, money is due at time of sign up. For the $15, you get shoes and unlimited bowling for two hours. 

Coach B's Driving School filling slots for next session

MARCH 11 DRIVER EDUCATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Students interested in taking segment one driver education this spring.  Coach Bs Driving School is hosting a class starting March 11 at Western High School. This class has a limit to the number of students Coach B can take.  We will schedule around practices, spring break,and games.

Mounties defeat Western in girls bowling

Parma-Western girls bowling team lost to Northwest girls bowling team by a score of 29-1.
Abbee Gennety had a high game of 208, Cheyenne Bolenbaugh had a high game of 193, Devon Clute had games of 182 and 186, Kayla Aldrich had games of 170 and 178, and Alicia Griffin had a high game of 160.  The team's next match is with Waverly on Thursday, Feb. 7.

Bowling boys get knocked over by Northwest

Western was defeated last night by Northwest 27-3. 
Western was led by Junior Michael Hart with games of 215 and 200 and Senior Derek May with games of 205 and 204. Western travels to Royal Scot Lanes in Lansing on Thursday to take on Lansing Waverly. 
Western's record is now 6-5

Softball sign up sheet outside athletic office

Any female grades 9-12 who is interested playing softball this spring is invited to please sign up outside the athletic office by Friday.

CP Federal invites students to iSkate 4

CP Federal Credit Union would like to invite you to our iSkate 4 free event on Saturday, Feb. 16  from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Optimist Ice Arena.   There will be free admission, free skate rental, and a ton of free prize drawings.  For more details, stop by your Western High student credit union branch Friday during lunch.

Wrestlers beat Harper Creek, Coldwater en route to district title

After a disappointing finish in the conference (3rd overall), the wrestling team bounced back with a district title in a dominant performance.  
The Panthers began the night in the semi-finals by thrashing a young Harper Creek team, 66-15. Western kept the momentum going in the finals by winning some important matches early and pounded Coldwater 57-19.  
Down 17-15 going into the 171-pound match, Trent Hullett avenged a loss from last year's district tournament by pinning his opponent.  Scott Cooley wrestled his first match at 189 pounds and pinned his opponent as well to put Western up 29-15.  Pins by Brady Hoffman and Austin Catt sealed the deal for Western.  Double winners for Western were Brock Hoffman, Tade Price, Chase Veydt, Tyler Ebersole, Trent Hullett, Scott Cooley, Brady Hoffman, and Austin Catt.

Frosh girls win at Marshall


The Western freshman girls defeated Marshall last night 33-26.  Sierra Griffith played a fabulous all-around game leading the Panthers in scoring with 17 points while pulling down 10 rebounds and coming up with 5 steals.   Alexa Marston and Jessica Claar each had four points.  Jessica also came up with 5 rebounds and 5 steals.

Grace Archer contributed in some tremendous ways in last night’s win.  Although she only had two points, Grace grabbed 9 rebounds, had 9 steals and blocked 8 shots.  She came up big on the defensive end several times in key situations down the stretch.

The Panthers improve to 4-6 on the year and travel to Jackson High School next Thursday to take on the Vikings.

Boys bowlers defeat Leslie

The Western boys bowling team traveled to Leslie to take on the Blackhawks in a non-conference match Tuesday. The Western boys won 20-10. They were led by Sophomore Andrew Mullikin with a 255 and Junior Michael Hart with a 207. The varsity record is now 6-4. Our next match is Wednesday Feb.6th against Northwest at Airport Lanes at 3:30.

Basketball drops game to Marshall

The western boys basketball team lost on the road to Marshall Tuesday night. 
Despite playing without injured leading scorer Isaiah Ingles, Western put up a good fight for the first 2 /12 quarters until Marshall was able to pull away.  Andrew Hanson led Western with 14 points and Nate Laipply led on the boards with five.  
Western will host Leslie Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

With 29-points, Hanson leads Panthers to OT victory

The varsity boys basketball team beat Charlotte at home in overtime Friday night, 74-73.

Hullett, Catt win at league tournament

Sophomore Austin Catt grapples earlier this season at the JAWS meet. Catt stood at the top of the podium Saturday at the CAAC Gold League Tournament.

Trent Hullett and Austin Catt were champions for the wrestlers at the CAAC Gold League Tournament on Saturday.  
Hullett defeated Austen Droscha of Mason 3-2 in the finals and Catt pinned Brandon Foster of Waverly to win his weight class. Droscha is ranked 9th in the state.  
Western had finished 5-1 in duals and entered the tournament in second place but a difficult day ended with the Panthers in sixth place. The wrestlers had three starters out of the lineup with various injuries.  
"We just couldn't overcome the loss of three solid varsity wrestlers.  It's very disappointing," Coach Hoffman said.  
Chase Veydt and Tyler Ebersole finished in second place. Spencer Plate finished third, while Brock and Brady Hoffman were fourth.

JV wrestlers finsh out strong season

Saturday was our JV Wrestlers last chance at competition for the 2012-2013 season.  
Ten wrestlers were able to make it to Waverly High School on the snowy morning to be able to give their best effort in their last performances of the season. Evan Shaw, Cade Shushok, and Josh Holder took second in their weight classes this weekend.  The Panthers also had four undefeated champions this weekend Austin Marks, Noah Clemons, Eric Rickabaugh, and Tommy Kik.
Congratulations wrestlers on a great season.
