Spread the Word


This week's broadcast provides a recap of the Powder Puff Football game, information about upcoming sporting events, and plenty of Gangnam Style.

JV soccer 1-1 this past week

In JV soccer action this week the Panthers went 1-1.
On Thursday night the team ran into a tough Dewitt squad and lost by the score of 6-0. On Monday the team defeated Charlotte 3-1.  After being down by 1 goal in the first half the team came out with inspired passion and scored three unanswered goals giving the Panthers their sixth win of the season.  Scoring for the team were Brayden Heerlyn, Zach Plaxico of an assist from Evan Shaw, and Nathan Neubecker off an assist from John Wilkerson. Keep up the good work boys!!

Freshman football rolls to 6-1

The freshman football team extended their winning streak to 6 games by defeating the Mason Bulldogs by the score of 36-6. 
Running back Michael Roush had a breakout game gaining more than 150 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Mason Callow also scored two touchdowns and Austin Cooper recorded one rushing touchdown. The defense was spearheaded by Austin Marks, Cade Shushock and Nick Eaton. 
The freshman football team takes its 6-1 record to Northwest next week for a showdown with the Mounties.

Girls golf team goes to El Dorado

The Girls Golf Team finished 4th out of the 7 teams in the CAAC at the conference finals held at Mason’s El Dorado Golf Course.  
Alyssa Joseph once again led the Lady Panthers with an 18-hole score of 93.  Henley Nowicki and Alex Vann also were able to break a hundred with a 98 and 99 respectively.  Alexa Marston finished off our scoring with a 111.  Overall for the season, the team finished  3rd, ahead of Mason, Eaton Rapids, Lansing Waverly and Charlotte, but behind Northwest and Lumen Christi.  Our Regionals will be next Thursday at Spring Meadows G. C. in Linden.

Volley for Hope Wednesday to raise money to fight breast cancer

   The volleyball program is playing in a Volley for Hope Cancer Awareness game on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012 against Lumen Christi.
   Starting Monday tshirts will be on sale for $10.00 and Tuesday wrist bands for $3 at lunch and in the Athletic Office.
   People who wear the Volley for Hope shirt on Wednesday will get into the games for FREE!
   Freshman and JV Games start at 5pm.  Come out and support the Volley for Hope Cancer Awareness game!

Western Runners Club organizing bike race and trail run

On Sunday, Nov. 4, the Western Runners Club will host its first ever multi-sport event. The Hello, Yeti! Klunker-Cross and Trail Run will take place on the Western Nature Trail. When signing up for this event, competitors can chose to ride, run, or do both.
A cyclocross race course is a loop less than a mile long, that has a variety of surfaces and obstacles. Riders are expected to get off their bikes at a couple points as they race to see who can finish the most laps in a set amount of time.

Western XC teams run away with victory over Waverly

Ken Nakashima and Mackenzie Kellar each finished in first place yesterday as Western hosted Lansing Waverly in a cross country dual meet.

Alyssa Joseph leads Panthers to golf victory

The girls golf team defeated Charlotte last night at Arbor Hills Golf Course, 208 to 245.  
Alyssa Joseph once again led the Lady Panthers and all scorers with a 49.  Alexa Marston, Alex Vann and Henley Nowicki provided solid support with a 52, 53, and 54, respectively.  The Girls travel to Mason tomorrow for the Conference Finals, which is an 18-hole event.

Western beats Charlotte in Panther Bowl

Western varsity boys soccer team improved its CAAC record to 4-2 by beating Charlotte last night.
Payton Wheeler scored two goals assisted by Devin Cole and AJ Thompson. They begin conference tournament play this Thursday at Dewitt.

Loy Norrix blanks soccer team, 4-0

The varsity soccer squad was beat Saturday by a Kalamazoo Loy Norrix team that pushed its win streak to 14 in a row.

Quiz Bowl team to practice Tuesday

The Quiz Bowl team will practice tomorrow, Oct. 2, in Mr. Anderson's classroom, Room 209, from 2:40 to 3:20 p.m. This is the only practice scheduled this week.

JV volleyball knocked around at tournament in Coldwater

Western JV volleyball played in a tournament Saturday at Coldwater.  
Along with many injuries came some losses.  We ended up being 1-5 in pool play.  We were then entered into the silver bracket and won our first game against  Mendon 25-16 and 25-17.  We were then on to the semi finals and lost to Parchment 25-19, 6-25 and 6-15.  It was a tough day for the team but some of the highlights are Jessica Claar had 11 serving aces and Cassidy Pluta had 13 kills and Susie Davenport had 31 assists.

JV soccer shuts out Loy Norrix

The boys JV soccer team had their third victory in a row as they defeated Kalamazoo-Loy Norrix over the weekend by the score of 1-0. 
Zach Plaxico had the game winning goal with a rocket from 18 yards out.  Liam O'Neil & Andrew Hughes combined for another Panther shutout.
