Wrestlers improve record to 11-3

The Panthers pounded Portage Northern 55-18 and defeated Portage Central 42-29 in a hard fought battle. Other two match winners were: Brock Hoffman, Grant Keller, Tade Price, Tanner Jewell, Tyler Ebersole, and Brady Hoffman. J
unior Varsity winners were Spencer Plate, Colton Parker, Noah Gazlay, Eric Rickabaugh, Ben Marshall, Tommy Kik, Josh Holder, and Scott Cooley.
Western girls fall to Charlotte bowlers
The Western girls bowling team lost to Charlotte, 17 to 13.
Kaitlyn Deforest had games of 222 and 190, Alicia Griffin had a high game of 189, Devon Clute had a high game of 182, and Chyenne Bolenbaugh had games of 217 and 179.

Variety Show auditions Jan. 10-11
Auditions for the National Honor Society sponsored Variety Show will be held Jan. 10-11 after school in the Choir Room.
Based on television shows like America's Got Talent, NHS is looking for singers, dancers, acrobats, jugglers, magicians, actors, jugglers, comedians, mimes -- performers of every stripe and hue -- to fill slots on the playbill.
Bowlers struggle at Charlotte
Western Varsity A lost a tough match tonight against Charlotte 23-7.
Western Was led by Junior Michael Hart with a 259 and Sophmore Andrew Mullikin with a 233. Senior Derek May added games of 196 and 194. Western Varsity B team defeated Charlotte 19-11.
The B team was led by Junior Jon Saines 209 and Freshman Dominic Greer shot his very first 200 game, a 200 on the nose. Freshman Spencer Aldrich added a 183. Western's next match is Thursday Jan. 17th against Northwest at 3:30 at Airport Lanes.

Gymnastics team competes against Haslett
Last night the Western Gymnastics team faced off against Haslett in their first conference matchup. The girls had a wonderful meet, all improving their scores from our previous meet and getting our first team regional qualifying score. The final scores for the night… Haslett 134.575 and Western 122.55! Make sure to tell all of the ladies they did a wonderful job. Below are individual events for Western!

Softball Club to host Mom to Mom sale
The Western Softball Club is having a Mom to Mom sale on January 26.
If you or anyone you know is interested, attached is a form that gives
more information. This is a great way to make some money, get rid of
things, or buy used items at a great price.
Drivers education information available
Students interested in taking a segment one driver education class starting March 11, Coach Bs Driving School will be hosting the class. The class has a limit of 24 students. Sign up now by going to coachbsdrivingschool.com or by calling Coach B at 425-2614. Information forms are in Mr.Benners room.
JV girls beat Adrian
The JV Girls defeated Adrian last night 39 -11. The win evens the JV
record at 4 wins and 4 losses. The girls were led by Cassidy Pluta who
had 10 points 11 rebounds and 4 steals, Lauren Wade had 7 points, 6
rebounds and 4 assist, Elizabeth Floate 6 points and 4 rebounds, Sarah
Clark 4 points and 5 steals, Kaite Wilkins 4 points and 5 rebounds and
Emma Pritt 4 points. The girls play Friday at Northwest.
Adrian Maples fall at Parma-Western
The boys varsity basketball team continued their current winning streak last night, defeating Adrian 64-55.
They have now won five in a row and will travel to Northwest on Friday night.
Isaiah Ingles led the way for the Panthers scoring 27 points and handing out four assists. The Panthers did a great job on the boards with several great contributors. Ryan Conklin led the way with eight rebounds while Mitchell Palmer, Will Knickerbocker and Nate Laipply all added seven rebounds a piece. Andrew Hanson, Nate Laipply and Will Knickerbocker all added 8 points while Mitchell Palmer added seven.
The boys are now 5-2.

After a very nice finish in the Battle of the Bakers in Battle Creek the Western Panthers started Conference play with an 18-12 win against Mason. Western was led by Senior Derek May with a 255. Junior Michael Hart added a 247 and Sophmore Andrew Mullikin had a 219. The Western Varsity B team defeated Mason 23-7. The B team was led by Freshman Zach Plaxico with a 221 and Freshman Hunter Benson added a 210 and Sophmore Alex Fankila had a 178. Western Varsity A team is now 1-1 and 1-0 in the CAAC Gold. Western Varsity B is 1-0. Our next match is on Thursday Jan. 10th against Charlotte at Airport Lanes @ 3:30.
Bowling ladies beat Mason
Parma-Western won a match with Mason's girls bowling team by a score of 18half to 11half. Kaitlyn Deforest of Parma-Western had high games of 212 and 182, Devon Clute of Parma Western had high games of 291 and 175. Lindsay Richards of Mason had high games of 228 and 170, and Samantha Tgl had a high game of 179.
Snowfest Dance Guest Forms available in the office

Ingles selected Panther of the Week
Congratulations to junior Isaiah
Ingles for being selected this week's Panther of the Week. He is the
son of Lee and Sally Ingles of Spring Arbor. Isaiah is coming off a
great week of basketball. He led the varsity basketball team to two wins
during the Holiday Hoops Tournament. In those games, Isaiah scored 52
points, had 12 assists and 13 steals.
Bowling boys knocking down pins
The Western Boys Bowling team had their first match of the season
at Portland on Friday Jan.4th. Western go off to a rocky start losing
28-2. Western was led by Senior Kyle VanArmen with a 221, Derek May 189
and Michael Hart 182. Record 0-1
On Sunday Jan.6th Western traveled to Battle Creek for
the Battle of the Bakers at M66 Bowl. In the 12 game Baker style format
the Panthers qualified 2nd with a total score of 1983. Our first match
in the best 2 of 3 matchplay portion was against Marshall. Marshall won
the first game 163-142, Western came back to take the next game 172-115
and in the final game it came down to the very last ball with Western
winning 138-136. Western then went on to face Vanfercook Lk. in the
semi-finals. Western struggled in the match and
lost 141-117 and 180-147. Western then moved on to the 3rd-4th place
match against Hanover Horton with Western winning 159-151 and 186-155.
for a 3rd. place finish.
Our next match is Tuesday Jan.8th @3:30 at Airport Lanes against Mason.

JV wrestlers host tournament
Over the Christmas Break the JV wrestling team hosted their individual
tournament. All of the wrestlers that participated performed
extremely well in front of the home crowd. We had stellar
performances from Spencer Plate, Noah Gazlay, Trey Shaughnessy, Cade
Shushok, and Scott Cooley who all were undefeated on the day and won
their weight classes. Great performances were also given by Eric
Rickabaugh, Josh Holder, and Alex Tomblin who finished the night with
only one loss.

Wrestlers win at Jim Dewland Classic
Brock Hoffman and Trent Hullett won the Jim Dewland Classic/Western
Invitational on Saturday. Hoffman was defeating the 6th ranked wrestler
in the State in Division 1 11-6 before pinning him late in the third
period. The pair helped the panther's win their own tournament. Tanner
Jewell received his first loss of the season at the hands of the 3rd
ranked wrestler in the state in Division 2. Jewell is ranked 10th in
the state. Chase Veydt, Blayne Kerstetter and Tyler Ebersole were
third, while Grant Keller and Brady Hoffman were fourth. Ebersole is
ranked 9th in the state.

Boys basketball team wins Holiday Tournament
The Varsity boys basketball team had a successful holiday on the hardwood by winning the Western Holiday Tournament. In the first game Western defeated Springport by a score of 82-53. Isaiah Ingles led the way with 29 points, 7 assists and 6 steals and Andrew Hanson chipped in 20 point and Ryan Conklin had 12 points and 13 rebounds.
In the championship game Western defeated Concord 61-51. Isaiah Ingles led the way with 23 points and 6 steals while Will Knickerbocker tossed in 12 points. Nate Laipply did a great job on the boards gathering 8 rebounds. Western in now 4-2 and will host Adrian on Tuesday before traveling to rival Northwest on Friday night.
