Seniors shut out Juniors 28-0 in Powderpuff action

The Class of 2013 remained undefeated, winning year's edition of Powderpuff Football, 28-0.

Homecoming: pre-game notes

Reminder: The Athletic Department is selling tickets until 3pm for tonight’s game!  Gates open at 5pm!

Remember, if you are attending the game tonight, you will not be able to leave the game and re-enter with out paying. Please bring all sweatshirts, umbrellas, sunglasses, with you the first time. Also, no open containers are allowed through the gate. You’ll be asked to throw them away if they are open.

Freshman football destroys Eaton Rapids, extends win streak to five

The freshman football team defeated Eaton Rapids on Thursday night by a score of 31-0. 
Leading the offensive attack was Austin Marks and Andru Maynard who each scored a couple of touchdowns. Defensively the Panthers were able to preserve the shutout with outstanding performances from Michael Roush, Cade Shushock, Noah Burke and Sheldon Williams. This puts their overall record at 5-1. 
The Freshman play Mason next week in their last home game of the season.

Golf team beats Waverly

After a tough week in which they were beaten by rivals Northwest and Lumen Christi, the girls golf team traveled to Lansing Thursday afternoon and defeated Lansing Waverly at their Royal Scot Golf Course, 186 to 193.  Alyssa Joseph led the Lady Panthers with another solid round of 42.  Alex Vann and Henley Nowicki posted 47’s and Alexa Marston added a 50.  Charlotte comes to our course next Tuesday.

JV volleyball defeats Hanover Horton, loses to Adrian

Last night the JV volleyball team played Adrian and lost 16-25 , 8-25.  Then we went on to play Hanover-Horton and WON!  The scores were 25-23, 25-19.  Some highlights are Cassidy Pluta had 6 aces and 8 kills.  Also Susie Davenport had 9 assists.  Our record is now 9-8-3.

Leslie no match for Western Volleyball

The Lady Panthers hosted and defeated Leslie in three games.
Cheyenne Bolenbaugh was the serving leader of the night with 17 attempts and 8 aces. She started the first game with a 11-0 run. Libby Breton and Alyssa Cinpak were the leading hitters with 6 kills for Libby and 4 for Alyssa. The team played aggressively and cohesively.

The JV won 25-23 and 25-8.  Even though we had a slow start we played great TOGETHER!  Some highlights are Cassidy Pluta had 4 aces (2 jump serves) and 4 kills.  Sierra Griffith had 3 aces and 4 kills and Laura Holton had 7 assists.  Overall record is now 8-7-3.

JV soccer blanks Onsted

The boys JV soccer team had their second victory of the week last night by defeating Onsted 3-0.
Opening up the scoring for the Panthers was Evan Shaw off a great cross from Zach Plaxico.  Luke Knapp netted the teams second goal with a blast from 20 yards out with the ball finding it's way to top right corner of the goal.  Brayden Heerly added the third goal of the game with less than a minute left on the clock.  Andrew Hughes and Liam O'Neil shared the shut-out in goal as each came up with some good saves. There was great team play throughout the night as they brought home another victory for Western.

Attention all student drivers.It is a privilege to be able to drive your own vehicle to school rather than riding the big yellow bus.BUTYou MUST register your vehicle.If you are a student driver and you have not yet registered your vehicle and obtained a current parking permit, pick up a form from Mrs. Scott in the front office TODAY.Parking lot sweeps are coming….Thanks.

Key Club announcements


Attention Key Club!  Don’t forget to bring your food or drinks for the Key Club party on Thursday.  Check the sign-up sheet in Mrs. Mayotte’s room if you forgot what you are supposed to bring.
SECONDLY,  don’t forget that Key Club is running the gate and concession stand for Thursday’s Powder Puff game.  Be prepared to show up for your assigned shift by checking the sheet on the Key Club bulletin board!

Football game tickets on sale now in Athetic Office

The Athletic Department will be pre-selling tickets to Friday’s Homecoming Football game. If you don’t want to stand in line, come purchase your $5 ticket in the Athletic Office.

Tennis team beats Charlotte, finishes regular season 2nd place in CAAC

Parma Western boys got a lot of help from the bottom half of their line-up tonight as they beat Charlotte 6-2 to end the regular season CAAC play in second place, losing only to Lumen Christi.
"For a young team, I couldn’t be prouder," said Coach Blume.
Wins came from Timmy Mayotte and Jonah Engle at #3 and #4 singles as well as sweeping all four doubles.  Jason Bills/Cory May, Zach Biederman/Chester Chan, Josh Marsh/Sam Dobben, and Eli Reed/Cecil Burkhart were all winners in doubles.

In double overtime, varsity soccer shoots down Mounties

JV soccer team shuts out Northwest

The boys jv soccer team hosted the Northwest Mounties last night in their third conference game of the season and came out with a 3-0 victory.
Scoring for the Panthers were Evan Shaw of an assist from Brayden Heerlyn, Zach Plaxico of an assist from John Wilkerson & Jacob Ladwig with a great 16 yard shot for the teams final goal of the game.  Andrew Hughes recorded the shut-out in goal coming up with some big saves in the second half to secure his second clean sheet of the season. The team is now 2-1 in conference play as they look to take on Charlotte next Monday in the final regular season game before the conference tournament starts.  Good job boys!!

 Do you want to know more and even participate in Jackson Counties Most Teens Don’t program?  Then see Mr. Niles for forms to attend a half-day program at the Career Center Oct. 4.  This is a county-wide program promoting the positive behaviors that teens participate, not the negatives.

JV volleyball goes 4-2 in pool play, makes it quarterfinals of Spring Arbor Tournament

Western JV played at SAU Saturday.  
Pool play results were 25-19,25-14 against Springport, 25-17,17-25 against Grass Lake, and 25-22, 27-25 against Lumen Christi (4-2 record 2nd out of pool play).  We then went against Northwest in the Quarter Finals and lost 17-25,17-25.  They played well all day.  Some highlights for the days are as follows:  Jessica Claar had ten aces, Cassidy Pluta had 20 kills and Susie Davenport had 29 assists.
The team's overall record is 7-7-3.
